I recently had the opportunity to try out the world's first authorized Tesla app that offers Apple Watch and Siri/Shortcut support. The app provides a reliable Siri and Shortcuts feature that works seamlessly, even if the car is asleep. With this app, you can control and monitor your car's stats directly from your watch or phone, without needing to open the app. One of the standout features is the ability to combine, schedule, and automate commands based on various triggers and conditions such as driving, charging cable status, sleep mode, work commute, Bluetooth or WiFi connections, NFC tag activation, alarm activity, or specific times of the day. Additionally, the app allows you to add shortcuts as icons on your home screen or widgets to quickly access your car's stats or control it.
The Apple Watch app itself is fully functional and offers vehicle stats complications for easy access. What impressed me the most was how quickly the app opened, connected to the car, and executed commands compared to other Tesla apps I've used in the past. Even if your car is asleep, you can queue multiple commands and close the app - it will still carry out the commands as scheduled.
The app provides valuable battery insights such as current/total usable kWh compared to the stated capacity, phantom drain monitoring, and a history of your car's range versus its odometer/time. What's interesting is that it displays battery and power usage information even when not charging.
Unlike some other apps, this one doesn't contribute to any phantom drain or background usage, ensuring your car's batteries are not unnecessarily depleted when the app isn't actively in use.
Other notable features include:
- Viewing total miles per kilowatt-hour added since the last charge session
- Estimated range display based on your past 30 miles of usage
- Consolidated stats and commands on one screen for quicker access to information, allowing you to view all three ranges (estimated, rated, and ideal/typical) simultaneously
- Accessing and copying the raw vehicle data provided by Tesla's API servers
- Convenient 3D Touch menu for quick commands from the Home Screen
- Using HomeLink or Summon features remotely, without the need for continuous pressing (autopilot required). You can also activate keyless start prior to Summon to avoid needing a key fob nearby
- Setting an in-app alarm to avoid idle fees from Tesla by alerting when charging reaches a specific kW or percentage level
- Camp/Dog Mode, which allows you to keep the HVAC on even when there is no activity in the car. Normally, the car's HVAC system turns off after 30 minutes of inactivity
- Monitoring the number of range miles used per hour
- Sending commands through the remotes:// URL schema, including parameters
- Max cool and Max heat buttons for optimizing cooling and heating by quickly sending multiple commands
- No-Commands Mode, which enables family and friends to monitor your Tesla's location without granting them control over the car
- Breadcrumb tracking feature that allows you to visualize the car's recent travel path
- Trip statistics that display current MPGe, kWh used, miles traveled, kWh per 100 miles, cost savings compared to traditional combustion engine cars, cost savings over the car's lifetime, and various other engaging stats
- Saving trip routes to different slots for easy comparison of distance, kWh usage, cost, and more
- In-app browser capable of detecting commands from JavaScript, enabling the creation of scheduled, queued, or repeated commands
- Separate temperature control for passengers and the driver
Privacy and security are prioritized with this app, as it only communicates directly to Tesla's servers for login credential verification and command transmission. No personal identifying information is stored by the developer.
It is important to note that this app and its documentation are not affiliated with nor endorsed by Tesla Inc. By using this app, you assume any associated risks. The author does not guarantee its flawless functioning. Certain features require specific vehicle options to operate correctly (e.g., HomeLink/Summon requires autopilot options to be enabled). While the app seeks to replicate the interface used by official Tesla apps, any changes or settings modifications made to your car through this app are solely your responsibility. The developer is not liable for any damages caused to you, your car, or any other objects resulting from the use of this app.
